Census and Statistical Data
The Planning Department, as an affiliate of the New York State Data Center, assists with the collection and dissemination of demographic, social and economic data. Use the subject links at the left for a range of population, social, and housing themes (by municipality). Below are interactive data visualizations with the most current Census data.
The Department is a major repository for census and statistical data, and works closely with the U.S. Census Bureau and other government statistical agencies. Information collected from the census is used to distribute over $300 billion in federal funding to states and local governments. In addition, census information determines how many seats each state receives in the U.S. House of Representatives and how many electoral votes each state receives for presidential elections. Funding and planning for schools, infrastructure, and community programs and services relies on census data.

Local Area Median Income (“LAMI”) Data
The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides Westchester County with the Area Median Income (AMI) data used to qualify incomes for affordable housing. These figures are based on responses to the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey in Westchester. AMI is based on countywide median family income data, meaning that the income limits do not differ between local municipalities within the county.
The Westchester County Board of Legislators adopted legislation directing the Department of Planning to also prepare and distribute Local Area Median Income (“LAMI”) data based on the median family income of individual municipalities, as provided by the Census Bureau in American Community Survey table B19113. Data are not available for each municipality because the Census Bureau does not provide the median income for municipalities where the income estimate is above $250,000. These 2023 median family incomes have been adjusted for inflation using the projected change in per capita wage growth between 2023 and 2025, based on Congressional Budget office (CBO) estimates. Please note that the local median incomes are provided for informational purposes only and are not used to qualify income limits for any County-assisted housing.
