The Planning Department, as an affiliate of the New York State Data Center, is responsible for assisting with the collection and dissemination of demographic, social and economic data. Census and Statistics News November 19, 2009—The New York State Department of Labor has released October 2009 labor market data. Employment in Westchester County was 457,900, up 0.4% from September, but down 2.4% from year-ago levels. The unemployment rate was 7.2%, down from 7.4% in September 2009 and up from 5.0% in October 2008. View the data October 27, 2009—The U.S. Census Bureau has released the 2006-2008 American Community Survey 3-Year Estimates providing updated social, economic, housing and demographic data for places with populations greater than 20,000, including many communities in Westchester County. View the data October 21, 2009—The Westchester County Board of Realtors has released its third quarter 2009 residential real estate sales report. Year-over-year sales of all homes in Westchester were down 9.7%, and the median sale price of single-family homes was down 11.3%. Employment in Westchester County was 456,000, down 2.4% from September 2008. The unemployment rate was 7.4%, up from 7.3% in August 2009 and up from 5.2% in September 2008. In Westchester County, 3 building permits with a total construction cost of $425,000 were estimated to have been issued for 3 units, a year-over-year decline of 12 permitted units. Year-to-date, 83 permits with a total construction cost of $64,862,196 were reported to have been issued for 259 units, a 17.0% year-over-year decline in permitted units. The unemployment rate was 7.3%, unchanged from July 2009 and up from 5.0% in August 2008. View the data August 6, 2009—The U.S. Census Bureau has released July 1, 2008 county housing unit estimates. Westchester County was estimated to have 361,516 housing units, an increase of 1,570 over July 1, 2007 and 12,071 over the Census 2000 base number. Year-over-year sales of all homes in Westchester were down 30.7%, and the median sale price of single-family homes was down 16.3%.
