A continuous trail along Westchester's Hudson River shoreline
The Westchester RiverWalk is a planned 51.5-mile multi-faceted pathway paralleling the Hudson River in Westchester that links village centers, historic sites, parks and river access points via a connection of trails, esplanades and boardwalks. It spans 14 municipalities in Westchester and is part of the Hudson River Valley Greenway system. RiverWalk will be developed through a series of projects constructed by the county, local municipalities and other entities, including private developers. Nearly half of the Westchester RiverWalk route runs directly along the Hudson River shore. Remaining inland portions utilize the Old Croton Aqueduct, road rights-of-way, main streets and public and private sites. View a detailed RiverWalk map. - Total length: 51.5 miles

RiverWalk Projects in the works RiverWalk at Croton Landing Park - A new 0.75-mile section of RiverWalk situated directly along the Hudson River shoreline within Croton Landing Park in the Village of Croton-on-Hudson openned in the late spring. This segment added to the existing 2 miles of RiverWalk in the village, of which 1.5 miles run directly along the waterfront. It was designed and constructed to RiverWalk design standards as established in the 2005 Design Guidelines Manual for RiverWalk. An on-site ribbon cutting opening ceremony was held on May 13th. RiverWalk Tarrytown - South of Tappan Zee Bridge - Construction is underway on a one-mile section of Westchester RiverWalk in Tarrytown, just south of the Tappan Zee Bridge. This segment will pass through the historic Lyndhurst estate, Kraft Foods, Metro North and Village of Tarrytown properties, which are situated upland from the Hudson River, offering spectacular and expansive views across the widest portion of the river and of the Tappan Zee Bridge. This segment will connect to County Waterfront Park and the Old Croton Trailway. The implementation of this section represents a unique and cooperative partnership between various private (Kraft Foods), Quasi-private (National Trust for Historic Preservation), quasi-public (Metro-North) and public (Village of Tarrytown, County of Westchester) entities. Construction is expected to be completed by the spring of 2010. RiverWalk Tarrytown - North of Tappan Zee Bridge - Construction is also underway on a half mile segment north of the Tappan Zee Bridge. This segment of RiverWalk will run directly along the waterfront within the Hudson Harbor waterfront development and along the waterfront edge of Pierson Village Park. It will link to the north with the RiverWalk esplanade at Ichabod’s Landing in Sleepy Hollow. RiverWalk at Mariandale Ossining - A new segment of the RiverWalk Trailway overlooking the Hudson River in the Village of Ossining is currently in the conceptual design stage. The pathway will follow an upland route across the property of the Mariandale Retreat & Conference Center and then connect with existing footpaths in Ossining’s Crawbuckie Nature Preserve. This project will provide the public with a 1.3 mile long multi-use pathway through a peaceful, scenic area, with expansive views of the Hudson River and provide a pedestrian link between the villages of Croton-on-Hudson and Ossining and a connection to the Old Croton Trailway. Westchester RiverWalk Reports - Prepared in 2003, the Hudson River Trailway Plan is a feasibility report that presents the projects initial proposed routing and contains photos and maps and descriptions of the proposed trails segments.
- Prepared in 2005, the RiverWalk Guidelines Manual provides a set of standards and design palette for the purpose of providing unity and consistency for its entire length.
